Do you usually take off your smart watch when washing your face or hands? Regardless of whether it is waterproof or not, there is always something to worry about. Will this watch get water?
Do you know the waterproof performance of watches? 30 meters (3ATM/3BAR) waterproof, 50 meters (5ATM/5 BAR) waterproof, 100 meters (10ATM/10 BAR)... What do these waterproof grades mean? 30 meters waterproof means can swim in 30 meters deep water?
What is a waterproof watch
The waterproofness of the watch depends on the waterproof rubber ring on the mirror, back cover, etc. to reach the corresponding standard. All waterproof watches are marked with the English words "WATER RESISTANT" or "WATER PROOF" on the case back. A watch without a waterproof mark is only dust-proof and should be kept away from water.
Watch waterproof rating
In terms of physical phenomena, every 10 meters of underwater depth increases the pressure of 1 atmosphere. When the pressure inside and outside the case is uneven, the watch body is prone to burst. Therefore, the general watch factory uses the "pressure value" to test the waterproof function of the watch, and uses the pressure resistance value (unit BAR or ATM) to indicate the waterproof depth. In the description of water resistance, ATM stands for "atmospheric pressure", which is equal to the pressure at a depth of 10 meters. Another word for atmospheric pressure is bar (BAR), often used in Europe.
When the watch is marked:
3ATM (3BAR/30 meters) waterproof, it means that it is suitable for daily use, not for long-term swimming; it can resist a small amount of handwashing and face splashing and rain.
5ATM (5BAR/50 meters) waterproof, which means it is suitable for short-range swimming in the shallows, not for diving or snorkeling.
Spovan smartwatches are water-resistant up to 50 meters, which means you can use them in rain, wash your hands, and take a cold shower. However, it is not suitable for swimming and diving. In addition, the spovan smart watch should be removed before showering or washing hands.
10ATM (10BAR/100 meters) waterproof, which means it is suitable for swimming and snorkeling. We have a simple digital watch---SW01 digital sports watch which waterproof up to 100m, you can wear it into the swimming pool.
20ATM (20BAR/200 meters) waterproof, which means it is suitable for sports with high impact in the water and some diving activities, such as diving.
Tips for Buying Waterproof Watches
Remember not to wear waterproof watches in environments such as bathing, sea bathing, hot springs, exposure to high-temperature steam, and sudden changes in temperature. Any waterproof watch cannot press keys and unscrew the back cover in water!
Waterproof watches must go to the manufacturer's designated or regular maintenance point with the required technical ability and equipment level within the correct time, clean the watch, do the waterproof test, and replace the waterproof parts according to the time marked in the manual. Of course, regular cleaning and maintenance of expensive watches is more important.
Although general waterproof watches have taken sealing measures to prevent the intrusion of sweat and harmful gases, they are not absolutely free of water. The inevitable key operation, the thermal expansion and contraction of the surface glass due to the influence of temperature, causing a gap with the case, the aging of the waterproof rubber ring of the back cover, or the corrosion caused by sweat will reduce the waterproof performance of the waterproof watch. Therefore, the general waterproof watch cannot be worn for swimming or bathing.
The waterproofness of the watch depends on the waterproof rubber ring on the mirror, back cover, etc. to reach the corresponding standard. The aging of the waterproof rubber ring will affect the waterproof performance of the watch, so the waterproof rubber ring of the watch should be replaced regularly according to the usage. Friends, you can check the waterproof level of your love watch, and you must pay attention when using it.
The water resistance rating of a watch is not permanent. Water and debris are kept out of the watch by gaskets that are expected to deteriorate naturally over time. As part of service, or when you replace your quartz watch's battery, these sealed components should be thoroughly tested and, if possible, replaced as appropriate. If you plan to wear your watch swimming or diving, you should always test it for water resistance before immersing it in water. Make sure to take your watch to a professional watchmaker who has the proper equipment to dry test the watch for water resistance and replace the sealing components as needed. Regardless of the rating, the watch should not be worn in warm or chemically treated water (such as a hot tub) as temperature and irritants can damage seal components and/or compromise water resistance.
