What is a waterproof watch

Therefore, the general watch factory uses the "pressure value" to test the waterproof function of the watch, and uses the pressure resistance value (unit BAR or ATM) to indicate the waterproof depth. In the description of water resistance, ATM stands for "atmospheric pressure", which is equal to the pressure at a depth of 10 meters. Another word for atmospheric pressure is bar (BAR), often used in Europe.

When the watch is marked:

3ATM (3BAR/30 meters) waterproof, it means that it is suitable for daily use, not for long-term swimming; it can resist a small amount of handwashing and face splashing and rain.

5ATM (5BAR/50 meters) waterproof, which means it is suitable for short-range swimming in the shallows, not for diving or snorkeling.

Tips for Buying Waterproof Watches

Remember not to wear waterproof watches in environments such as bathing, sea bathing, hot springs, exposure to high-temperature steam, and sudden changes in temperature. Any waterproof watch cannot press keys and unscrew the back cover in water!

Waterproof watches must go to the manufacturer's designated or regular maintenance point with the required technical ability and equipment level within the correct time, clean the watch, do the waterproof test, and replace the waterproof parts according to the time marked in the manual. Of course, regular cleaning and maintenance of expensive watches is more important.

Although general waterproof watches have taken sealing measures to prevent the intrusion of sweat and harmful gases, they are not absolutely free of water. The inevitable key operation, the thermal expansion and contraction of the surface glass due to the influence of temperature, causing a gap with the case, the aging of the waterproof rubber ring of the back cover, or the corrosion caused by sweat will reduce the waterproof performance of the waterproof watch. Therefore, the general waterproof watch cannot be worn for swimming or bathing.
